SHOPS WITH A DIFFERENCE


Besides all the usual shops in Orlando like Walmart, the malls, designer outlets and others there are a few really good ones that are worth a visit because of their originality. One such shop is called “ Global Imports “ it is found on the Sandlake road just past the opening to the Florida Mall , on the right. It was previously known as “ Snooze you lose “ the name that it used to go under giving you a clue to what goes on in the shop. Personally I think they should have kept that name, it just described aptly what a fun shop it really was. Besides having an unbelievable selection of goods totally unlike anything you would ever find in regular shops the idea is that when an item comes into the shop to be sold it is priced and then dated. One month after this if the item is not sold 10% is taken of the price. If the item is not sold this is done each month and another 10% is taken off each month . If after six months the item still is not sold it is then given to charity to be auctioned. What a brilliant idea !!
The idea is you can buy the item when you first see it or you can dare to wait and take a chance as to whether it will still be there the next month or indeed the next month at the cheaper price. Hence the name snooze you lose, buy it or wait and lose it if someone else decides to snap up your bargain while you are waiting for the price to drop.
The items in the shop range from full life size models of the Blues brothers and Marilyn Munroe , telephone boxes, Chinese vases and furniture that looks like its come out of Dracula’s castle !! Carpets , pictures , ornaments , lamps , beds, just anything and everything you could possibly think of and more besides.

Another favourite of mine is The Old Time Potteries, not far from Global Imports, just past there and a little further down Sandlake road on the left.
In there , there is an Aladdin’s cave of silk plants, flowers , artificial trees of every colour and type you could think of, they are all very realistic too. Life size palm trees, fruit trees, plants that are in pots and lose flowers that you can use to make up you own flower arrangements. The place is huge and you could wander around in there for ages. There is also rows and rows of pictures, frames, lamps, garden equipment , candles, vases , ornaments, bed linens, patio furniture , crockery and lots of unusual kitchen gadgets.
So the next time you want to have a look around at some shops that are a little bit out of the ordinary give these two a try you will be pleasantly surprised at what you find and never know what you might end up buying.
