What do I get when I buy a front page feature?

When you purchase a front page feature, you are putting your vacation home in a highly visible location—the front page of our site, the top vacation home directory, and all outgoing site mails including newsletters and member updates.

The system works this way. Every month there are twenty open slots for front page features. That means up to twenty homes can purchase a slot on the front page. A home cannot purchase more than one slot in a month.

Every single time someone visits the front page, the site randomly pulls ten of the possible twenty front page feature homes and puts them down the left side of the page. The copy that appears below the image is the content that you put in your villa details under “feature phrase”.

The list changes every time the page changes… so that on one view of the page, one of twenty possible homes is at the top of the list. If there are ten or less homes on the feature rotation, each home is guaranteed to appear; if all twenty slots are purchased, each home has a fifty percent (50%) chance of appearing each view of a page.

With thousands of views every day, that adds up quickly over a month.

There is also a smaller feature box at the top of the front page and directory main page, and at the bottom of all outgoing emails, that includes a random selection of three of the possible twenty homes on the front page feature. If there are three or less homes on the front page feature, each featured home is guaranteed to appear in that area; if all twenty slots are taken than month, each home has a fifteen percent chance to appear in that box.

It is possible for a home to appear in the vertical list of ten homes and in the horizontal list of three homes at the same time.

Things to remember if you purchase a home:

The system is fair. If you purchase a front page feature and refresh the front page ten times but find that your home only appears 4 times on the list of ten, you have to remember that there are other visitors viewing the same page and they are also pulling random results with the same odds. Statistically, over the period of a month, each home will be seen an equal number of times. When there are more than ten featured homes in a month, there are necessarily going to be homes not seen during a viewing of the page, but the number of viewings evens out.

You will be taken to our payment form that will allow you to select some options for your vacation home. The link will preselect the front page feature option. You must then select the month that you want to feature your home on the front page. If you happen to select a past month, a month that is beyond the expiration of your listing, or a month that already has 20 homes featured on the front page, the site will prompt you to select another month.
